Default 14" ZO6 brake package

I thought you guys might like to take a look at a little project I put together for a friend's car. We were planning to install a new C6 ZO6 setup but decided to take another route and came up with the setup we liked on a much better budget. I used a 14" C6 ZO6 rotor mated to a C5 ZO6 caliper and then came up with the bracket. We're using 19" wheels so the setup will fit just fine. It's a nice option to Wilwoods, Baer, and the rest of what's out there. It also uses the stock hub so there will be no added offset to front track width, and the replacement parts are obviously GM and easily available. The rear setup will be very similar to maintain the look both front and rear. Take a look:

19" wheels.

ain't that kinda expensive. Will the package fit under 18" wheels. Have you tested it yet?

Eb,
Yes I would like to take a look at your little project. I am just starting to look into just that type of system. Looks like you've done all the leg work.
Which master did you use? Proportioning valve? Power brakes? What caliper mounting brackets?
Frank.

What are you doing for a master cylinder? The C5 Z06 calipers have smaller pistons than stock and are not really an upgrade unless you swap out the master as well.

Just tested the setup under a 18" aftermarket Iroc wheel this morning and it fits great. The wheel had zero offset and 4.5" of backspacing, any more than 5" and the wheel rim will hit the steering arm. The wheels on the car look just like the ones on the chassis in this thread:

We're undecided on the master but I think Bruce will want a C5 or C6 master as he wants C5 calipers both front and rear, he will make that decision, and I'm sure he wanted an adjustable prop valve (Wilwood, etc.). I know they'll be power brakes. I used a C6 Z51 abutment bracket, the spindle bracket is my own fabrication.

When you get some time, some more detailed pics would be welcome.

Thanks, Frank.

The C5 master should work with a 77-82 booster and is 1" bore just like the manual masters for the C3. Also the pedal ratio's for power C3 and C5's are very similar so you should have a nice setup. The only issue I see would be that the C5 master is so tall. You might have hood clearance problems.

Another option is to use a 1968-76 booster and an early C3 manual master. They will bolt right up and have the same bore as the C5 master.

Do you see any problem running manual [no power] brakes with the manual 1" bore cyl?

I wouldn't do it. When I first did the Z06 calipers I used the manual master and the brakes had more pedal effort than the stock setup.

You can either use a 7/8" master which is what I will use next, or a dual master setup like this or power brakes.

Aren't the C6 ZO6 rotors kind of heavy? I think Norval made his own aluminum-hatted 14" rotors, but he's a little handier than most. How much do the ZO6 rotors cost?

They aren't the lightest, but the calipers are less than half the weight of stock.

My 14 inch rotors with aluminum hats weighed the same as a stock unmodified rotor but I did stick with the stock heavy calipers.
I also have about $600 to $700 in my rotors

Where did you find the caliper bracket? Does it fit the stock spindles? Thanks

The C5 and c6 guys get rotors from NAPA for $25

Expensive rotors are ok for show n' shine but racers go through them like toilet paper so you need cheap cheap cheap.

I bought 14 inch blanks from coleman racing for over $500 and then had to buy a big chunk of aluminum to turn out the hats.
It wasn't cheap.

Absolutely...that rotor weighs a whopping 27# but is a very thick casting, I'l compare it to a DBA/Baer rotor. The above mentioned price issue is why I used these rotors. Sure there are lighter parts out there but I like to use factory or off the shelf parts in all my kits to keep replacement and maintenance costs down or at a minimum.

The abutment bracket is C6 Z51, the adapter bracket is my own creation, powdercoated to match the spindles.
