I just received a cool canvas tool bag - has one - soon more Corvette patches on the side.
I have tools for the garage and a box full I set up for 4 wheeling in the Blazer - but what to take for the Vette.
So far I have a smallish first aid kit, flashlight, umbrella, and a pair of small vice grips, phillips and regular screw drivers and standard pliers. I'll probably snag a rain slicker from the Blazer (I have 3 there). Will be getting a small fire extinguisher soon.
In one of the Q&A letters in this months Vette Mag was a good checklist of what to take on a trip. You could use that as a starter and add or substract whatever you want.
78Vette-SA I saw that list - man, if the guy took much more he might as well just get a trailer hitch, and car trailer and carry a spare car with him :D The way I figure it - if I'm needing push rods(2), rocker assemblies(2), and/or valve springs(2) - I'm going with Jack's high limit credit card idea.
I almost bought JB Weld today (saw it while I was standing in line at the lumber yard) - but then remembered how long it takes to set up!

Re: Take along tools and stuff ? (rrent)
A few months ago I was at MY Sears Hardware/Tool store. I was looking for a travel tool/ratchet/socket set that would fit behind the seats. I came across a 193 piece 1/4 & 3/8, metric and SAE set in a handy carry case. Sign stated $99 on sale! I thought that was a deal considering the contents, that's less than $0.60 a piece. It also had a sunken storage area in the middle to which I've added pliers, breaker bar etc. It weighs more than it should but also carries everything I need. I go to the checkout and it rings up at $69!! I quietly pay and run to my car before anyone gets wise. Now that case carries just about everything I need to make small and not so small repairs while on the road.
Come to think of it though, since I have this travel kit with me I haven't had to use it on the road!
I got stuck in Staten Island one year with a broken belt. I had a replacement but my tool bag was in my wife's truck. Nothing worse than having the part to fix the problem and no tools to loosen the bolts. In all my vehicles (including the Harley before I sold it) I carry a set of wrenches, needle nose plyers w/cutters, 16 in one screwdriver thing, and 14ga wire. Doesn't take up that much room. A friend just got a '79 vette and he went the AAA route. I think I'm going to do both.
The small socket set from Sears/Home Depot etc. which are in the black zippered "portfolio" case (first thing I bought - added needlenose and locking pliers inside), Fire Extinguisher, Towel, Emergency Fan Belt Kit (Pep Boys, etc), Hose Clamps, Lead Substitute & Octane Boost, Glass Cleaner & Paper Towels (It seems like I always need them), Tire Pressure Gauge, Cell Phone & AAA Card.
