Default Hooker Headers

I am running a 1976 with a Hooker Header side exhaust with STS incerts, sounds really GREAT,
Only problem is my Rochester Carb is stock and I can't get the choke to idle down for about 15 minutes. Has anybody installed a maunal choke on a Rochester Carb. I have not been able to find any information in any of my referance manuals about this type of conversion. It takes forever to get up enough heat from the engine running Headers to get the choke to kick down. Has anybody run into this situation? I live in the North and in the dead of winter it takes forever to get the Carb to kick down.
Thanks
for any info GUYS.

The choke coil can be adjusted yet still activate when needed. Set it cold by loosening the screws around choke coil. There may still be the stock pop rivots still holding it in position, carb is removed in order to drill out. Next, have you swapped a different intake manifold also? Sometimes switching to a different style of heat air preheater can be swapped in place or better yet an electric style. Though these are pricey and getting hard to get in kit form like they use to be.

You'll have to research a little deeper on your actual carb model, get the carb number off drivers side just behind throttle at secondaries. Believe it'll start with 1705****, take this to part store and see what's still available.

Good luck,
Later.

Thankd GasketDude, but I was thinking more about a manual type choke that can be worked by hand inside the car.

Any auto parts store should sell a hand choke conversion. Here's one from NAPA.

You might also consider switching to an electric choke, I did that with my 78' and it works great but I never tried it in winter. Where are you located? Filling out profile would help us help you.

An electric choke kit is about $20 at NAPA. Much easier than going manual.
