Default 82 CE side mirror question

This is my 2nd vette, 1982 collectors edition. My question is that when i drive the drivers side view mirror rattles and shakes, and it feels like the outer housing is a little loose. What is the best fix for this problem?

Thanks

Bit of a pain to get at but worth it compared to being annoyed by the vibration.

You need to remove the door panel. Lower the window. Remove the bolts that hold it to the car. The upper housing is bolted to the neck...the bolt has probably loosened. I tightened mine but didn't put any thread lock on it...had to do it a second time and used thread lock...its fine now.

No other way to get at that bolt.

Before you spend the time (and it takes alot) make sure the housing is truely loose at the mount. Getting the window adjusted back correctly is a mother. If you have to do it I found that if you loosen the two anti-rattle pads for the window and you wedge a piece of wood between the window and the outer portion of the door you can get a socket on the nut using vise grips clamped to the socket instead of a ratchet.

PS mark all bolt locations with a black marker before loosening them, it will help get it back to a good baseline for adjustment.

yea it seems loose at the mount, there is a good amount of play between the mount and the door, whereas the passenger side mirror is tight to the door, thanks for your help. the corvette forum is great.
