I've seen them advertized where they state that the sheet metal is the same, but the breather tube is different or at a different angle. Not sure for all years. Check out catalogs from the big venders. Also depends if you just want it to work or be correct.

According to the GM parts book '73-'74 small and big block air cleaners were the same. The breather tubes are different

No, they are not the same. The metal ring that sits atop the air cleaner (that the rubber seal is attached to ) is different. The twin snorkle air cleaner part is the same however---the ring is the distinction. The ring for 454's is not being made at this time by any aftermarket supplier to my knowledge. They do show up on ebay.

Patrick73 above is correct. Since the q-jet is about 3/4" closer to the front of the car on BB cars, the ring is offset so the rubber seal will meet the hood correctly.

And yes, the BB ring is not being repo'd. You'll have to find a used one and you won't like the price when you do. But if you want the correct alignment for the cowl induction system to work properly and the correct BB components (will help with car value and judging) you need the correct BB ring. Yes, ebay is your best bet.

The functioning cowl hood was used from 73-75. This BB ring was only used in 73 and 74,..BB's in Vettes were gone by 75.

Good luck!

I agree, all I looked up was the air cleaner asm. as GM sold it which did not come with the ring. What is the difference in the ring? If it's height only, can't the small block ring be modified to duplicate the big block version?

I have a high rise intake on my small block and sectioned 1 1/2" out of the air cleaner base and ring and welded it back together to get everything to fit again. It looks stock and nobody ever notices it unless I bring it up.

The height is the same for both the SB and BB rings. The diff is that the SB ring symetrical,..the big in hole in the middle is in the middle.

The big hole in the middle on the BB ring is off-set and the ring is asymetrical. Again, the since the carb is further up in the engine bay on 454's the offset ring moves the rubber seal back to fit the opening in the hood.
