I am trying to get the Diff down.
Everything is down and out of the way and the last thing to do is actually get the Diff down... the one bolt in the front of the diff is no problem... my problem is that the two bolt that hold the rear XMember came off pretty easily, but the XMember is not budging... it as if it was glued and pressed up there
I used a big pry bar and mine came off pretty easily. But I have heard from others that if it doesnt budge then the jaw puller is definitly the way to go
Really a moderate sized gear puller worked for me. I've got a 3 jaw with several different pivot points and two types of ends on the jaws for maximum flexibility. I think I got mine at Harbor Freight, or a place here in Atlanta called Northern Tool. You just need to be able to get a couple jaws along the top of the x-member which can't be more than 5 or so inches wide.
As far as the prybar, I hit myself in the head/neck/face/chest/groin area several times before I gave up, so I have NO good advice on that route.

I want to try using a gear puller... does anyone have a pic of the type and size I need to get is to fit and all?
Ok I have a big pry bar... Where do I try prying at where I won't damage anything?
I don't have a big enough puller... where can I get one that big?
I pryed from the wheel well. it seems like there was a gap and so I slid the pry bar in there and slammed down on it (not hard enough to booger up the metal) and it popped off pretty easy.
I removed a cross-member a few days ago and broke a 4 foot pry bar! Then used a 2 jaw puller and ripped the rubber out of the cross-member. They can be a S.O.B. sometimes! P.S...eat your Wheaties first!
The first time I removed the crossmember it wouldn't budge so I left it. I came back the next day and gravity did the work for me.
The next time, 2 years later it wouldn't budge at all again. I had to use a pry bar in the end of the cross member, and eventually use a crow bar and pry between the crossmember and frame.
Mine won't budge... I think I need to try a puller. But I need someone to pos a pic of what I am looking for... size, type etc.
this is the one I've been using, it was real cheap at autozone, I want to say $10-15. I've got a 3-jaw puller that's a little better quality, but its not as big and doesn't fit as well on a lot of things. You can rent these too, but they're cheap enough and come in very handy so why not just buy one.
Remember to screw the bolts back in a couple turns, so when it does pop loose the bolts will keep it from dropping to the ground. Have a floor jack supporting the diff before you remove the bolts, then use the jack to lower the crossmember/differential assembly.
With the gear puller, use either 2 or 3 of the jaws to just get a bite on the outer edges of the crossmember. The screw bolt in the middle, place that on the head of the bolt holding up the crossmember - not to the crossmember itself.
should work smooth within just a few seconds (literally)
I just removed mine this week. sprayed alot of pb blaster and taped with a 1lb hammer for a couple of days. by the third days it droped off. Just don't rush it.
