i have the weirdest problem in my 1980 L-82 vette..i just purchased it a while ago and just finishing the final touches of restoring it..when i want the interior dash (speedometer and tac)to light up my instrument benzel(oil fuel amp ect) stop working..if i turn the interior dash light lighting up the speedometer and tach off the other gauges(fuel oil clock ect) work again..i turn the lights on via the headlight switch..it doesnt turn on untill i turn it all the way..anyone anyone?? thanx for checking out my question ..im new to the forum and it took two days just to figure out how to post a question hehe..

It sounds like your headlight switch. there is a resistor in there that controlls the interior lights. The little wires in the resistor get worn and break. I think you can get a new one for around $35 - $40.
Its not an easy job if you never done it before. If you wind up changing it let me know and I will try to help.
You can also get just the resistor from a junkyard from any old GM that looks the same and rebuild your switch. My resistor is from a cadillac

I had the same problem with my '81. It turned out to be a break in the printed circuit on the back of the instument cluster(fuel,temp etc.).
