Default New Trannie or rebuild?

Well I lost my second gear on my TH400 in my 73.

Basically it will go into second, but it wont "grab" it, it basically is like a neutral gear that somewhat lets you accelerate slowly but then it slips majorly. my other 2 gears are just fine. if I leave it in 3, all shifts are as smooth as always, it just skips second.
Well this is the original trannie from 73 and its been thru alot of racing, so now heres the big question

first of all like as a side question, what is that gear problem anyways?

but should I rebuild that old th400, and if so where are some really good professionals...

or get a new th400 like from B&M.

I was sorta looking at the th7?? with overdrive, because I want to run a 4.11 in the rear (instead of my 3.55 right now) but i got a 502crate in there that will definitley see more horepower days (thinking 650+).

are there any other options to run 411's back there with streetability...i dont wanna be at 4000 refs on the highway..

thanks

Mike

Probably worn clutches or stuck valve.
I have rebuilt mine - myself.
It was much easier than I expected.
Pretty cheap for the B+M Transkit ... cheaper if you hunt down the parts wholesale.

If you really want overdrive ... TH200-4R might be an easier swap.

Are you still racing the car? If not, why do you want to run any gear steeper than what you have now? That 502 has to have a ton of low end power, i would think it would still pull hard even w/3.55's. Do you still have original engine stowed away? If so, I would keep the #'s matching tranny and have it rebuilt. Just my .02

Talk to Bowtie about a stage 3 2004R or 700R4.

Thanks, just 1 more question left.

Well answers first.
Yes I still race the car, I plan on racing for a long time with it.
The reason I want to run a taller gear is that ive seen C3 Vettes run mid to hi 11's. Im still struggling around at 12.255 @113.5.

Now my question is, will the stage3 Th200 with overdrive be able to handle 650+ horses?

thanks for all your help
