Default Interior color?

72 Coupe..code 421 saddle interior. Looking at catalogues and online parts places, some list 72's as having both light saddle, and dark saddle..others list only saddle, others list only dark saddle. Spoke to Tommy at Wilcox, his books only show "saddle"....
Is my interior light or dark saddle???

Thanks!

Darn good question. I have the exact same code and cannot tell for sure.

I believe it is dark saddle based on the Mid America book I have.

Let me know if you find out for sure. I will be in the market for new carpet next year.

Thanks,
Dino

My Corvette Black Book only list S= Saddle as the color for 69-72. For 73 it list Ds= Dark Saddle and Ms= Medium Saddle. Mine has Medium Saddle but the top pannel is Dark Saddle

I just went through this with my '72, code 421. '72s were only available with one shade of saddle. It's listed as dark saddle by the catalogs.

Everything I ordered in '70-72 dark saddle matched up perfectly.

Be sure not to get '73 dark saddle. It's noticeably different. Same for the earlier, '68-69 saddle.

Great! Thanks for the info. I thought that it was the dark saddle, but did not want to take a chance on ordering something without knowing.

Thanks,
Dino

There were so many tan/saddle/brown/buckskin types of colors in those years. It can be a real pain when you buy used parts if the person selling doesn't know exactly what year and code interior it came out of. It also doesn't help that there's variations in the catalogs as to what was available with the different shades.

I guess it doesn't help that there can be over 35 years of fade and weathering too.
