Bellhousings on I6 and V8, 1962 to 1985, all interchange with the exception of 400 small block and 454 big block due to balance requirements.

If so, what are you guys with 383's doing?

Only difference in bellhousings is the actual size depending on the flywheelsize 153 or 168 tooth so the bigger bellhousing needs to be used with the bigger flywheel, other than that they're all interchangable

my 68 was born with the 153 tooth flywheel i wanted to put on a bigger and better cluth to hold my 575HP 383 so i changed the bellhousing and flywheel to the 168.

My 1966 chevy pickup had a I6 250 ci and I put a 350 sb and it bolted
up just fine to the 4sp bell housing yes there all the same. That was a quick little truck after that. Should have kept that one.

The flywheels would be different due to balance requirements. The 400 and 454 were externally balanced. The others are internally balanced. The 383 kits are available either internal or external balanced. There are difference in the bellhousings depend on which size clutch you are using. The 621 bellhousing will accomidate an 11" clutch but are expensive. I would go with a McLeod. Bought mine for my 383 build new for $230 with a block protector. Have seen them for $199 without.
