Default C3 Header Experts Need Your Opinions Please....

Planning my 383 build up and really wanted to stay with the stock / stealth look by painting the aluminum heads and intake, etc But it has become very apparent that if I use the stock ramhorn exhaust manifolds I will be leaving 25-30 HP and ft/ lbs ofTorque on the table....
Block Huggers don't seem to generate much HP or Torque over the ramhorns, longtubes have alot of clearence issues with the motor, the mounts, steering as well as ground clearence and the fitment to the rest of the system.
So I an considering the shortie headers....something like these currently on Ebay...WILL THEY FIT A C3 with auto and air?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/CHEVY...mZ260046155991

thanks Mark

Didn't see Corvette listed in application. Also, it appears on manual transmission vehicles, the Z-bar won't clear as the headers all converge at the stud location on the block.

Your are correct...Vettes are not listed. I have an auto so the Z bar is not an issue Anybody make these for a Vette....looks like a better fit than block huggers and long tubes..

HED-68308 , 3/8 thick head flange, 1 5/8, 14 gauge tubing,
3 inch dia collector with ball flange conection, thermal coated.
fits a/c, power stearing, auto, or 4 speed. $264.88.
dyno max headers use 5/16 head flange, 18 gauge tubing.
hooker uses 5/16 head flange, 16 gauge tubing and the old
three bolt collector flange with a gasket. I believe there is
an extra bracket you have to buy if you have the older
A/C that sits over the top of the valve cover with the
HED-68308. I used to sets of hedmans on small block
vettes they fit no clearence problem. the hookers I had
on a big block vette fit good but I did have a ground clearance
problem and the collector was very close to the bottom of
the floor I had to put something between the floor and collector,
but the big block headers were 2 1/8 tube with a 3 1/2 dia
collector and the collector came back further then the 3 inch
dia small block hedmans. if you use a shorty header you are
wasting money there is almost zero gain over a ram horn.

Try sandersonheaders.com. Sandersom makes a variety of short headers including an interesting cast iron one.

I was looking at the same headers MBEE and was wondering the same thing maybe someone will chime in. Then I get to thinking that its only about 100 dollars less then a name brand and you know what your getting with those. I have 2000 miles on my new stroker and next is the 200r4 with the exhaust upgrade either duels to back or sidepipes not sure which yet have to see how legal sidepipes are in colorado. I hope to go the sidepipes but dont want to get any tickets.

Good luck your exhaust upgrade.

I have found that Dynomax headers might answer all of your concerns. The photo shows Dynomax on the left (mine) and Hooker on the right (neighbors '68). You'll see that Dynomax are slightly shorter and angled which eliminates ground clearance on a stock height car. No dimpling of the tubes was required and there is plenty of clearance around the engine.

I just bought a set of ceramic coated headers for my "79 and I asked all the sellers on Ebay selling headers if they would guarantee fitting my '79. Most did not answer but some did saying that if they didn't fit just send them back. I rather buy ones that fit so I got mine from someone who knew they would fit and guarantee no clearance issues.

ESU I got Summit headers from Summit for about $200. They appear to be made by Patriot as the number stamped on them matches up to the ones they advertise, a few dollars cheaper than the Patriot price. I got them installed last week end and appear to fit well, it took longer than I expected as I have AC and had to make a spacer etc. I'll get the new dual pipes done this weekend and see if everthing worked out as I planned.
