Default Restore Engine Restorer

What do you guys think of this product. A very good friend of mine has a '67 442 Olds with a 400cid engine. It used about 1 qt of oil every 1000 miles...no blue smoke or fouled plugs...he did have some blue smoke when he first started his 442 in the morning....figured he had bad valve guides. He put in Restore in his crankcase and after driving it around (about 2-3 months) his "oil consumption" decreased to about 2500-3000 miles. He did not change his driving habit or anything.....have NOT seen ANY blue smoke when he first starts his car. I have heard about "Snake Oils" promising this and that....but this stuff seems to work...... I am the REAL skeptic when it comes to stuff like this but stilll..........my friend is sold on it for sure!!!

Any comments based on experience?

Probably the same as STP, etc. It is what it is. Probably won't solve the problem, but it does help. I run STP in a old mustang and it reduces consumption and raises the oil pressure a little. Even though it is smog exempt, I feel better not smoking up the place. Can't think of any drawbacks, except for being a little thick when cold.

It is one of the two I would use if necassary. The other is Marvel Mystery Oil. Engine restore is the only company that offers a money back gaurentee if their product does not reduce oil consumption and increase compression in all cylinders. When I say reduce, the range is minimal to moderate at the most.

I used that restore in an old omni/horizon 1.7 motor that was used for early morning newspaper delivery by my 2nd ex, it worked, stopped using oil and ran tons better, I didnt beleive it till I tried it myself. If I had an old smoker now I would not hesitate to use it, STP isnt the same and didnt help anything except to keep the oil pressure higher.
Peace,,,Moosie

Used it in an old Ford improved power and reduced oil consumption.

I think I will try it since a couple have had good results. I too am skeptical but anything beats working on the wifes expedition. Just about a week ago she started getting an intermitent puff of smoke on start up and I certainly don't want to fix it.

All that stuff works by FM you just have to believe. Put it into your motor and keep repeating to yourself, "I do believe, I do believe, I do believe"

If valve guides are worn, rings are worn, or any other mechanical issue, I have a difficult time understanding how they products can add metal to rings, cylinder walls, or valve guides. Kind of like the magicians of old who could turn lead into gold. Don't get me wrong, I can't refute the anecdotal evidence or tales that our fellow CFers are relating - I just think that these products are band aids, not fixes. They DO turn your money into gold for the person selling it though.

If you have worn engine parts, fix them! Just MHO.

Hi Stuart! All is good here.

I'll take a bandaid on the expedition if I can get it. Not on the vette

Well, I'm a EE - not a chemist or physicist. Howevr, this product
claims to do just that ... build on (and smooth out) the worn surfaces.
Can I say it works ? No.
However, I have recently added a can to my vette based on many
positive replies from forum members. I've only started and warmed
up the engine in my garage - so no conclusion.
I'm considering an engine rebuild when I get new heads this winter,
so I may never really know if it works.

Kevin - why not the vette ? ... that is if it is blowing some smoke
and running crappy - what is there to lose ? Worst case - you lose
the cost of the product and rebuild the engine anyways.

Most of these items have testimonials; the majority are worthless. The best testimonials are from the average Joe who has tried the product. If someone, the average Joe or forum member, states the vehicle was using a qt of oil every 500 miles and after using the product the vehicle's oil consumption is cut by 1/4; I tend to put a little more faith in it. A friend of mine also used this product and said he lowered oil consumption and the car ran with more power. The power thing is hard to prove but oil consumption is not.

131k on the expedition, the vette engine might have 1600 miles and all good there. I am going to hit a lottery soon, so I may replace the expedition lol. Actually, I changed the oil in the expedition today and added a product called No Smoke. I will report back after the wife drives it a few days.

I believe it to be only a VERY few products that work.It was even mentioned by those brothers in the newspaper that rell you how to fix your car. Sure, its a bandaid.but at times,we can all use a bandaid.

I will try it also in my wife's Expedition. The vehicle is just like Kevin's, smokes on start up sometimes. I can't call it a puff though, it looks like a mosquito sprayer just went by. I did have valve seals put in with motor still in the car, $750, it didn't help. It's not worth pulling the engine to do the heads.
