Default Driveshaft RPM

Hello:
I am wondering if there is a limit to acceptable driveshaft RPM with an overdrive. I read somewhere an article on critical driveshaft RPM mostly to do with Chevy trucks and onepiece shafts. Seems like there is a definate maximium safe RPM for the long one piece allumininium shafts on the trucks. What about older C3 vette's. Seems that length and dia affect the safe limit if I recall. The vette shaft being shorter and made of Steel, is it therefore good for the crazy high speed of 4.11 and 700R4 overdrive. Driveshaft RPM will approach 6500 RPM at WOT. I understand that the 700R4 produces 30% higher than engine driveshaft speed. Can someone post a link to a tech shop capable of producing a safe high speed driveshaft. Looks like I need to shorten the stocker anyway as the 700R4 is longer than my old TH400

I have ran shaft rpm of well over 8000 rpm for extended periods. It was a well made unit and really balanced. When i installed it, I shimmed the rear of the tranny until I had nearly a direct line to the pumpkin.

It was of some concern to me when I was planning on going to exceed 9000 shaft rpm, but I got over it

I now have a .64 OD with 4.11 manual tranny and I'm older and worry a little more so I have a drive shaft safety loop.

Its worse than that. .7 to 1

At Mosport i hit 5600 rpm at the end of the Mario straight.

5600/.7 = 8000 I have a C4 aluminum drive shaft. The old steel driveshaft started to howl at 80 mph.

Is the C4 aluminum drive shaft a direct bolt in to a C3?

Most of the local supertruck asphalt CT guys are running long Al dshafts on ... ~7200rpm in hi-gear manual ... so 7200 at shaft too ... hard on-off gas ... ~400hp ... I haven't seen a CT dshaft fail because it was Al. Check w/ Coleman ... they have em http://www.colemanracing.com/catalog...deaa6c4c4a8820 ... sure there's others too.

Thanks for the input on shafts. I guess I will be able to have any reputable driveline company make me a shaft that shouldn't wind flying apart at the speeds I will incounter on streetdriven car.

Thanks for the many responces
