Here's a question for all you guru's out there. What could cause this situation in my 76'. When the oil is hot the pressure is 15psi @ idle and ~55 @ anthing about 1000rpms. Is this a wild difference in pressure? Seems like a lot to me, but that's why I'm asking. It seems like it's pushing towards 60psi. I'm alittle afraid that it's too high. I'm running Quaker State 10W30. Maybe that's the prob? I sure a hell don't know.

Re: Mighty Mouse' Oil pressure (xfactor974)
Hey Bryan you'll have 50 + psi pretty soon, how's the new motor coming ?
xfactor974 - What is you idle speed, if it's too low your pressure will drop sometimes all you have to
do is turn up the idle speed 100 RPM and the pressure will jump up close to what it is at cruising
speed. 50 - 60 psi is OK.
What causes oil pressure to become high? Just wondering.
I would not worry too much about the high oil pressure. The only time that it is a concern is when you get up to 80-90lbs and only if it stays there. This could wash out a bearing and do some damage. I run a high volume pump in both of my cars. They both idle with 70 lbs when cold and peg the gauge at any RPM higher than idle until they warm up. After they are warmed up, the pressure will be determined by the wieght of oil I use. With 30wt in my vette, it will drop down to 15-20 lbs at an idle when warmed up, but will usually run at about 60 above idle. With 20-50wt. , pressure will be no lower than 25-35lbs at an idle when fully warmed up and run at 70lbs above idle.
Wow, that's heavy duty. I don't think that I should worry about it then. It does drop to about 15psi when it's idleing. And it is 30WT, so you're dead on.
Thanks

Counting the days too ?
I was actually going to start tearing it down on monday, even though the "project start date" is for Sat. 9/29.
But then my work schedule changed, and I will be going to Herndon, VA Sunday through Friday.
So, back to 9/29 as my start date.
I have to hurry up and clean the garage so I can find my tools again. Some are still out since my front suspension project back in July
