Default New Push Rods

Is it common to get new push rods when a rebuild is taking place? Can I go with the stock ones? Do I need some extra hardened ones?

Go to Summit Performance and see the following part number.

CCA-RP1412-16

Comp Cams Roller tip rocker kit - Includes Pushrods.
all for $165.95 - the kit is $22 less without the Pushrods.

What valve springs are you using? If you're going to use anything stiffer than standard Z28 springs I'd say go with some slightly tougher pushrods.

Thanks for the responses I will be using comp roller rockers along with their cam and stronger springs so I better go with some better push rods.

Get a pushrod length checker and figure out the correct size needed for proper rocker geometry and buy that size pushrods new. Not worth taking a chance as I am sure with the vortech heads, different cam, different rockers and different lifters your valvetrain geometry is different than stock. Comp pushrods are what I used

For reference, here are the specs for standard Z28 valve springs.

Outside Diameter (O.D.) : 1.250
Installed Height : 110 @ 1.700
Open Pressure : 285 @ 1.210
Coil Bind : 1.160
Suggested Maximum Lift : 0.490"

Chevrolet used standard push rods in combination with these springs and they worked fine. If your springs are tougher than that, though, obviously you'll need some good ones. Do as 63mako said, though, check the length and such and make sure to get em right. The right size and strength pushrods will last you forever, as long as nothing goes boom!

Thanks for all your help my heads have been reworked with larger valves and springs good to 520 lift so I ordered the comp pushrods that will match the lifters and cam.

Good choice! Out of curiousity, what was the damage to your wallet on em? I personally hate seeing pushrods go for more than $6 a piece, insane how a little piece of steel can possibly be worth that much, in my opinion.
