Default Air ride system

Don't yell at me
Has anybody bagged a 68-72 Vette? A system could be made from Air ride, but.......

I've considered this and even picked thru the Air Ride cataloge but I decided to go with a corvette specific suspension from VB&P.
If your going to bag the vette then you'll have to setup the rear as if you were going with coil-overs. I didn't have the time or patience to add that to my list of to-do's.

If you want a trick set-up wait to see how SpeedDirect's rear coil-over "bolt-in" setup turns out....or go bag the vette, I'd like to see how that turns out.

that's my next mod..... next spring

front is a typical bag with cups.... rear has 2 options.... a shockwave bag to the shock mount or replace the leaf with a square tube and mount the bag between the bar and the crossmember........ the issue with the shockwave setup is that the clearance might be an issue unless you fab up your own brackets (then you can send me a set ) i was planning on using a 5 galloon tank mounted where the spare tire was and then running possibly 2 compressors....... i would bag the front before the back since my front is already lowered and i fear speed bumps......

I hear you on those darn sneaky speedbumps...
To contribute to your brainstorming on the rear suspension...if you're planning on bolting the square tube in place of the spring and then run the bags off the ends of the square tubing to the TA's then you'll have to fab up some brackets to mount the bags to the TA's. Could be tricky, you would have mount these bags directly on top of the TA b/c if the center of force was on the inside of the TA it would force the TA to twist when forces is applied. Getting it directly on top of the TA then forces you to deal with limited space.
If your planning on bolting the square tubing to connect both TA's together then running the bag from on top of that square tubing up to the crossmemeber, that would work but you then just created a solid axle and no longer have independed suspension AND i don't think the suspension will work if the TA's are binded b/c the half shafts force the TA's in an arch motion when the suspension travels thefore the TA's actually move closer and further apart during travel.

Great info, thats what I feared, the batwing arch could cause binding or extra stress.....Time to contemplate grasshopper...

If this is priced accordingly to their current inflamation of the headlight harness I fear none of us will be able to afford it. None-the-less its a neat idea and I hope they price it reasonably.

yeah, the direct bag to t/a would twist it.... thats why i mentioned the idea of a tube from the spring bracket to the t/a...... keep the spring bolt where it's at, just replace the spring with 2 bars........ not 1 bar.......i had a pic of a bagged rear but cant find it..... i'll search more later

someone posted a picture of the rear suspension of a C3 on airbags a while back........is it still around? It was a pretty good picture of the bag mounts.

P.S. I would contact this guy right here....it seems he already has done a airbag set-up on a C3

His car is nice but I'd take the female with the junk-in-the-trunk over the car.

OK - Update...

Has anyone checked out the Jan. Hot Rod Magazine article featuring air suspension on a C2 frame (with C5 front end)???

It's pretty darn nice!! So some of you guys with plenty of money and nothing else to do, order a kit and install it. I want to upgrade my system some day...

The problem with that set up is when you slam it, the spring bolt push up into the trailing arm. That connection would need to be improved.

Which setup are you talking about? The one in Hot Rod didn't have TAs. I wish I could find a photo, but I think they won't post it until after the magazine is older...

i'm working on my setup right now...... i just need to get some official sizes for the rear and go from there....not sure if i want to go with a square tube or a cylinder for the arms though.....seems a square tube would be better...maybe...... i'm waiting to hear back about my controls/valves/compressor.............. i still need to size up the bags for the front and rear
