Default Cancelled Big block swap, bought a stroker instead

There were a couple of posts that asked how much you are spending on big block conversions.
The problem is I replied.
I made a list of parts etc and then I realized how much this swap was really costing, and I was a bit surprised.
With the Dow falling, unemployment rising, a new war in the middle east kicking off in a few days, The wife got laid off a while back and her last unemployment check come and gone, a few other large expenses, and business slowing down some, I spent too much time thinking.
The cost of the 454 was a deal at $2400, but all the parts necessessary to make the swap were expensive. I have another $2500 in parts piled up in the garage to go into the car, oil pan, intake, carb, chromed headers, polished water pump, alum. radiator, etc etc etc.
The motor was supposed to be delivered from the machine shop last Sunday, and it not being delivered when it was sworn and promised, gave me an out.
If it was delivered a few days ago, I'd just put it in, but It went into the shop over a month ago. My buddy who has the motor is confident he can get alot more then the Bro Deal he offered it to me at, so he's not pissed. And the world sure did change alot in the last 10 days.

So the motor is coming out regardless for a T10 tranny swap, (auto to 4 speed) and I'd hate to put that lame butt 305 substitute motor back in, so I think I found a reasonable compromise and found and bought this stroker motor on ebay for $2000 including shipping.
All the accessories swap straight over from my small block so there isn't a fortune spent on swapping parts.
here is the auction number to see the new motor.
595559756
I thought this was the best way to go since it's not extreme performance but it is upgradable with heads/ cam down the road if I want more power, the car stays lighter and will handle better, I has more then double the HP of the motor that was in there.
And I have an extra $2000 in my pocket on parts.
I think it was a decent trade off.
Thanks

I hear that!

I've been slowly gathering parts for a big block conversion for the "nothing fancy"'77 - everytime I turn around I'm spending 100+bucks on this, that, or the other :D :D

The first time I did a bigblock swap I bought everything out of a chevelle and used it, waterpump, brackets for powersteering and alternator, stock small block motor mounts, transmissions and distributor. All I had to do was run an electric fan since there was no room for a fan and I even used the 2 core rad for a few years. If all you want is the bigblock power it does not need expensive accesories. Headers are cheap for anything.

I hear strokers can make big block power...but it may just be a rumor ;)
