Default Rebuilt 200R4 needs mods.

I have searched this a little but came up short. I am buying a 200R4 that has been rebuilt in the last year. It's basically a stock rebuilt trans.

I searched for any ways to mod this trans, things I can do, to get it ready for a 350-400 HP motor.

Anyone know of any suggestions for upgrading a 200R4 fairly easily and cheaply?

Thanks.

I found a pretty good article linked to the BTO page somewhere, had a bunch of info on what to do to them to make it better. Sun gear shell, bigger servo, shift kit, different types of clutches, etc..
I think I downloaded it, I'll see if I can find it

From what I've found, things that needa be upgraded are the pump, clutch packs, servos, and sun gear. There's more but those are the ones I know right off the bat.

This should help, too.

No kidding. He answered my question in one post. I have some reading to do...some ordering to do, and some assembly to attempt. This'll be my first transmission build so I hope I'm up for it.

Yeah I think I can. Luckily the trans is only $250 so if I mess up...I didn't lose out on too big of an investment.

Maybe I can talk Batman into helping me build the trans and drink a few cold ones.

www.bulkparts.com Good source for parts. The 200r4 is tricky to setup the end play for the shafts. Get a good manual you will need it. The pump is just about the same as the 700 but everyting else is diffrent.

As some of you know, I rebuilt a core 200 4r with a kit from local supply house, and a Trans Go shift kit.....

i'ts in the car now, but the clearance of the bell housing to firewall on my '72 here is much closer than the 700....i'ts a universal bellhousing....
also the tranny was about 1/2 inch too long to mount on the cross member in rear, without elongating holes in cross member....easy enough, IF I had known about it ahead of time...
still need take interior console out and pull shifter boots/etc....no shifter in place yet...I had a modded up stick shift Hurst with 8 ball on it for a shifter before, and that specific mounting is not going to be useable...oh well, another modification....
Engine is back together and in the car....but far from dressing out the top side for operation...

MrVette - Can you offer any suggestions or procedures you found while doing the rebuild? I'll be attempting this as soon as I get the trans in my hands. I'll want to order parts, and find a good manual. Do you still have links or part numbers and places where you ordered from? What things did you upgrade exactly, and did you use a manual at all or just go backwards from disassembly? Thanks man, all help is welcome.
