I bought a MSD "Corvette Tach Drive Pro BIllet " distributer, for $ 286.99 from Jegs for the BBC now Stroker swap.
Is there a less expensive alternative to running this dist. with a blaster 2 coil?
What are my alternatives, and still drive the stock tach on a '74?
Thanks
I bought a tch drive distributor off an old 68 vette....Off the forum and rebuilt it with pertronix components..Tach drive distr was $160 Pertronix components were $130 so total was= $290.....But now I have a "correct" tach drive distributor....Trying to keep her #'s matching and original :flag
You just spent near $300.00 on a distributor and you're concerned about a $30.00 coil? You can use your stock coil if that's your concern. Or are you confused about how the system works? Like that it requires a 5,6, or 7 series amplifier, which is clearly mentioned in the ad for the distributor. Otherwise, you could do as Jaybo suggest and just put a point conversion kit in the original tach-drive distributor.
Sorry Gary,
you missed what I was trying to say,
I have the distributer, coil and 6AL, total near $500.
My question is, is there a less expensive alternative to running all this stuff on a mild 383 stroker motor, and still turn the tach?
Thanks
Well, Mallory makes a Unilite tach drive distributor that can run with pretty much any coil and you don't need the MSD 6AL box. I think the only thing you have to do is buy the kit to reverse the rotation (not sure) haven't looked for awhile.
Going from the factory tach with the pertronix pickup to the MSD tach drive billet was one of the best mods I made to my car! The stock pieces just don't compare. Install yours, set your timing and advance (which is so easy with the charts supplied with the dist.) and forget about it.
