about five years ago, the timing chain broke,, in the process of rebuilding the motor to a 383 configuration, I also fixed the mess of an engine compartment. Then When I finished that, I moved on to the rear suspension, which after sawzalling the bolts off of the trailing arms, I yanked them out, and rebuilt the rest of the suspension. I then cleaned up the arms, put in new bushings, and reinstalled them. In the process of removing things to get to the rear suspension, I removed the exhaust, which basically fell apart in my hands, so I installed a new (front to rear) exhaust. When I took it to the alignment shop, the guy told me that my rear wheel bearings were shot, and I would have to remove the trailing arms again to fix them. On my way home, I took the car to the emissions shop. All day it had been acting so-so, but once I pulled into the emissions test bay, it stalled, then wouldn't idle. Keep in mind that I rebuilt the motor with all new parts, then had the manifold professionaly cleaned, as well as the computer carb rebuilt. While I was on there, I replaced any sensor that would be remotely questionable, and Also rebuilt the computer distributor (as well as new cap/rotor/coil), and of course, new plugs and wires by accel. So after it didn't pass, I put the vette away for about a year, out of pure frustration.
Recently I replaced the computer distributor and carb. for new units, and also installed a new battery, and it now runs a little rough (with no tuning yet), but it runs.

sooooooo, it's been a long road,,,, but I think it's been worth it. At the very least,,, a great technical learning experience.
