If it is bottomed out against the crank gear it will go no further. Did you compare the old vs the new to see if it was the same. It looks pretty close to what mine looks like. I'll go take a look at mine and see.

Yes mine is in closer than that. It looks like it needs to go on more.

bolt the pully on the front. If it don't line up with the power steering pump pulley its not on all the way.

it looks like it needs to go a little further to me.

Default balancer update

well i went back out and pulled the new one off
so i could measure how much further i needed to go.
found out i had just under 1/4 inch.
i marked the inside of the new balancer so i would know
where i needed to be with it on.
i took my nifty proform balancer install tool and tried again
with about 1/8 inch to go
this happened.

you can guess where the other end was.
vacuuming SOB, mother vacuuming proform piece of vacuuming crap.

there is a blue vacuuming streak hanging over central NJ as i type this.

needless to say luck or Karma was on my side for this one.
im thinking OK i now have to figure out how to drill this SOB out without
removing the crank if thats possible.
i stuck my pinky in the end of the crank and could feel a tip of metal that was on an angle on the broken piece. i got my finger nail on it and
gave it a turn and to my it spun so after 5 minutes of turning
i now have this

sometimes its better to be lucky than good.
now i need another balancer install tool but hopefully one that is
made much better.

That sucks. At least it came out pretty easy. Make sure the crank and the inside of the balancer are clean and burr free. Mine went on quite easily with the tool you are using. I did not have to apply much pressure. I was surprised when mine stopped as it was going on with little trouble. Of course mine was on the engine stand also.

Dude you are lucky! Can I say made in China! Make sure you use some Grade 8 threaded rod or a grade 8 stud to repair that install tool.

i cleaned up the snout of the crank
and the inside of the new balancer
with emory cloth to make sure there
werent burs that would hang it up.

where the tool is concerned i e-mailed
proform regarding it, claim is they dont have any
kind of warranty on this made in taiwan
piece of crap.
so i was nice in my e-mail and told them this thing
should have been at least grade 8 material for a job
like this.

will post their response once i get it.

so this is where i sit right now. i wanted to have
the front of the engine back together yesterday
but once that thing snapped it just took all the
get up and go right out of me

You could always try Auto zone or some one like that and rent or borrow the tool. You could always it on.

It sucks when you take the time and $$$ to get the right tools and they break and then you find out that they are not guaranteed/warranteed, Good luck with the Autozone loaner. Peace,,,Moosie

BTW: been meaning to tell you that you have a very nice looking dog, Dobies are cool.

While holding the very end of the tool with a box wrench, you now turn the bearing nut with another wrench being carefull not to let it tighten on the snout. I threw my Proform away and bought a Moroso installer. NICE!!!

Had the same deal with a proform ... I griped loud enough that they sent me a new one ... I use it as a loaner ... I bought & use a good tool from BHJ.

Suggest you take a CLOSE look at both keyways & key ... a very slight chamfer at edges of keyways & key may help ... any burrs will likely freeze it & bust all but best tools ... ensure key is fully-seated in keyway and does not roll up in rear as snout slides onto front of key.

That pic busted damper ... in background is Helen Mirren ... SUPER in latest installment (7) of Prime Suspect crime drama movie on ETV ... PS 7 premiered last nite. Truly a thinking persons' cop show.

yours had directions? mine was factory sealed and absolutely
did not include any directions what so ever on its use.
in fact i just looked at this loaner again and there are
no directions with it either
