Default Which block to use

Planning a big inch small block. Any input on which block to use, Dart, or Motown. If you have any experience with either your input will be appreciated.

Thanks
Dennis

i have a dart M little in my 406ci...my engine builder claims it's the best i could use for my application (570hp dinoed and 530tq figure)...up to now the full engine runs like on silk...
next engine transplant i'll get a lite motown alu blk, saves 60 lbs and is said to be as strong as a steel one

I am doing the same thing, I am building a 427ci so I am going with Bill Mitchell Motown with the splayed steel caps, it will accept a 4 inch crank and the Little M will not without some grinding.

The Motown block was designed to fix all the problems with OEM small block like thin cylinder walls, you can bore a Motown to 4.200" Only problem with that is they don't make pistons or rings that big yet. You can use all stock off the shelf components on the Motown like oil pans, timing chain cover etc.

Nothing wrong with the Little M other than you probably have to clearance it for a 4 inch crank

Jegs and summit have both blocks at about the same price. How much if any machine work is required before you build.

You should also consider the GM Bowtie race block.

I am looking at a GM Block clearanced for a 383 stroke at about 1,000.00. The big inch bow tie blocks are to expensive compared to the dart and world castings blocks

You can stretch a Motown block up to 454, if you've got the cash and the cajones.

Cajones, not a problem, cash is always a problem, unless I win the lottery.

Both are supposed to come .010" under so you can hone to your own pistons, I know the Motown block does but the literature on the Little M is a little fuzzy. Bowtie blocks are good but you can't overbore them like the Motown
