Default Brake Squeel Help

Need some advice on brake squeel on my 72. Is it a common problem? Not sure what's the best way to get rid of it. Does the common cures such as brake quiet applied to the back of the pads work? This squeeling is driving me crazy, not to mention embarassing the hell out of me!

I had the same problem when I installed semi metallic brake pads in my Vette.
Go to the autopart store and buy a set of "ORGANIC" brake pads for the front and rear, (they are cheap) and your problem is cured. These brake pads are great for a street driven Vette...

This is a fairly common problem with C3's. I've read and heard over the years that use only GM pads (I don't know if they are even still available) and to make sure your rotors are trued. There is also shims that different vendors sell that are plastic and are placed on both ends of each pad.

I've used the anti-squeal stuff for the back of the pads. It seems to work well for me. A lot of the pads now come with a backing for anti squeal right in the brake pad kit.

Good suggestion, but keep in mind that if your calipers are under warranty, putting anti-squeal on the back of the pads will void such warranty with various vendors.

I have tried it all on my 71 and still get brake squeal. Because I rarely drive it on wet roads I get a build up of brake dust. After I wash the car the squeal goes away for a while

I tried everything and nothing worked until I switched to organic. Cheap and easy solution.
