Default Big block ?

I have searched but still a couple questions.

I think i might have my small block 400 sold (long story)
Anyways reason being is I am thinking big block 572.....

I have a brand new dewitts rad with dual fans for a small block.
Would I have to change this?
Brand new wire harness for a small block.
Would I have to change this?
I know motor mounts need to be changed no biggie there and I am pretty sure the new springs from VBP will be fine but if not, not a biggie either.
Would the belhousing and clutch also be differnt from a small block?

Thanks

Bellhousing will be ok,clutch would work, but you want a stronger one.Wiring harness not sure.

I am thinking big block 572.....

Guess with all that tire smoke I won't have to worry about mosquitoes next summer

My guess would be the rad with dual fans should be able to cool it...you could always change it later if it doesn't

Are you going to be running a carb? or FI, may need some extra wiring there otherwise the existing harness should work

If you're talking about the GM 572, I think thats a tall block and would need custom made headers.

Don't let the headers thing scare you. It was the most dreaded task for me but turned out much easier than anticipated. If you are running undercar exhaust you may not have a problem. Mine was side exhaust and I was determined to keep the Hookers. There will be minor firewall trimming in one spot so the valvecovers will come off easily. I suggest a motor plate to firm up the car with all the new torque. Maybe a mid-plate as well.

Start looking at hoods too. A talldeck with a good intake sets pretty high. I have an L-88 that will be cut and raised. Hopefully soon!

Great for racing only. Unless you can afford race fuel (13.5 to 1 pistons) to cruise around.
Are you building it for a dedicated race car or cruises as well? Those HP #'s are attainable with more cubes and the engine still run on pump gas.Whatever you do, DO NOT USE DYNO-FLO! Any questions about them will be answered by PM only at this time.

big delima

went to local speed shop yesterday that works on my 06...
talking away and he suggests ls7 with new cam headers ect
put me at about 550-600 rwp
he has acess to wire harness and computer
would cost me about 3k more but that would be installed and tuned so would save me the labour

now i am really confused

You should do a 540 so you don't have to use a tall deck

The bellhousing, the distributor, the motor mounts and the rad are all the same big to small block. The problem might be that the 572 is based on the tall deck block so the distibutor might need to be different although the mounting pad on the intake sometimes can be machined to allow the same distributor to be used.
IF you go to special raised port heads and use a tall block at the same time the motor gets too wide to fit our steering boxes and custom headers will be required.
You could go to a 540 or slightly bigger with the short deck block and everything will fit.
I ran small block springs for almost 20 years front and back and loved the ride.

This is starting to sound like fun! What do you expect to have when you're done? 1000 HP is useless if you can't get it to the ground. What do you want the car to be. Fast track car? Fast street car? Trips around town or road trips and cruises? Lots of questions to ask yourself so your not disappointed with the outcome. Paint us the picture you have in mind.
