Default Over-Heating problem 70 Vette

Hi there , Just got this 1970 vette which keeps overheating , Has got large electric thermo fan mounted on inside of radiator sucking air inwards plus the original engine fan , Flushed and replaced coolant , Then removed thermostat which helped , but was wondering if having the thermo fan mounted on outside of radiator pushing air in would be better idea

There have been recent posts on this subject so I would suggest doing a search. As for removing the therostat, this is not a good idea as your engine may never warm up. One thing that I would check is to see if the seals around the radiator are in place. These force air through the radiator which is important with these Vettes.

You want to also make sure the fan shroud has not been removed. The above seals and the shroud are necessary for proper cooling. The fact the there is a thermo fan on the car seems to indicate that someone was trying to fix the overheating problem. You shouldn't need this if every cooling part is doing its job.

Do a search of the archives use 'overheating'
Also make sure that you have all the proper seals especially the
one that sits above the radiator support. HTH

Does the overheating take place at low speeds/idle or at highway speeds, or both? If the problem is on the freeway, do you have a front-air dam to make sure air is being directed properly, as well as the seals previously mentioned to make sure the air passes through the radiator?
