Is it different now? I've handled cars that have had recent problems with it, and I'm thinking maybe a year or so ago.
Most of the horror stories you'll hear are several years old and the newer ones are likely to be mis-applied applications where Dex was added to a pre-contaminated system and/or stop leak was involved.
See here http://www.fluidinfogroup.com/technical/dexcool.htmI'm not defending Dex but GM is still using the stuff and I would think they either worked out the bugs or dumped it by now.
I've heard some real good stuff (C2 section) on the new G5 coolant which is kind of a hybrid with low silicate.
Another question for me though is that your explaination for Dex seemed to be for aluminum radiators... My radiator and Heater core is Copper/Brass. Am I still OK???
The knock on Dex Cool is it will not protect solder joints in the cooling system. Since copper radiators and heater cores have solder joints I would change to Zerex G05 at the next change interval. I have Dex Cool in my C-1 the last 2 years with no problems but I will change to G05 soon.
