Default Rear diff ?

Hope someone will be able to help me with this question. I am in the process of rebuilding my vette which took on some water during Hurricane Katrina. I removed my rear diff and found out it wasn't a posi unit and needed some work, so instead I purcahsed a posi diff from a fellow forum member. Any way my question is my old diff had the small yoke and my new diff has the larger yoke. What is the cheapest and easy way of correcting the problem. Can I just change the u joints, Or do I need to change the yoke which is on the diff. Or can I swapout the driveshafts? Thanks Robert

I don't think you are supposed to remove the driveshaft yokes unless you are going to be rebuilding the rear end. From my understanding it messes up the crush bearing, they are set at a certain torque and once you remove them you won't be able to get the same torque. If possible I would just change the u-joint on your driveshaft accordingly.

If I'm not mistaken you can get U-joints that are small on one axis & large on the other

Your local driveshaft shop should carry them. They are also called conversion joints. You need to go from a 1310 u-joint to a 1330 joint.

Thanks for the info. On A different note I need to give you a call. Before the storm you had rebuilt one of my trailing arms, and I was going to take the other off and send it to you, well the storm hit before I had the chance, Now I want to send the old arm along with the one you had rebuilt. to go thru and rebuild. I will call next week. thanks Robert

They are Boyd's Blaster 5 I think, 17X8 4" BS. I don't remember the size tires I put on.
