Default K&N Filter warning!

Installed a new K&N Air cleaner, started to idle funny after a couple of miles, took of cleaner cover to investigate. I found little metal spirals from the mesh of the cleaner laying in the drop base, three to be exact.
Took cleaner off and two more fell out, a couple were still hanging on, see picts...

Emailed tech support, here's the respone,"Yes, that is very uncommon. We apologize for that. Would it be possible to take a picture of this? As I would like to forward it to our quality control Manager to ensure this doesn’t happen again. Thanks".
That was yesterday,no response back yet..I'm taking it back...

Probably made in China junk! Quality parts are getting hard to find these days.

like this junk is being produced in the USA

I bought a new humidifier for my home yesterday. (kenmore) Has
2 water bottles marked left and right. The one labeled left goes fits
into the right slot and and the one marked right will only work in the
left slot. Now if you have 2 chopsticks, which one is left and which
one is right.

I have really noticed a drop in the quality of parts for my corvette lately, I just got a shipment the other day and I was pretty dissapointed with some of the stuff. I bought some springs to fix the door handles and they were rubbish, I pinched them together to install them in the handle and they just folded in half! The good old ones were high tempered spring stainless MADE IN USA! and the ones I have now are no name (China) cr*p. By the time I import parts like this they cost me about 3 times the catalogue price because of shipping, tax etc.

Was that filter made in the acetaminophen factory? They had the same problem.

A recall for the generic brand of Tylenol, Acetaminophen was announced. Metal fragments were found in over 200 bottles.

The contaminated pills included metal fragments ranging in size from "microdots" to portions of wire one-third of an inch long, the FDA said.

the company discovered its equipment was wearing down prematurely

NAFTA rules baby. THE Administration, in their infinite wisdom, have determined this to be so. They have also determined that the "mostly" unpatrolled border with Mexico is safe from any possibility of a terrorist crossing, and that it is in our best interest to spend 1 billion+ per day fighting a war started on false pretenses for which they have no game plan for "winning" (whatever that means). Every American should be enthusiastic about sacrificing their first borne to further this futile effort with no end in sight. The older I get the more I think Plato was right when he said democracy is a terrible form of government. There's no relationship between someone's ability to get votes (popularity contest) and their ability to govern wisely and responsibly.

Don't get me going on aftermarket parts......have rarely ever recieved one that worked and/or fit as advertised. I could write a book on it. Quality control just costs to much. If I had a dime for very time a manufacturer said" just return it and we will replace it" I would be a rich man. What about the week it is going to take me to get that part back out!!! Some of those folks sponser this site as well. Buyer be ware!!!

Isn't every air cleaner an aftermarket part?

Anyway, went to the parts store to exchane the filter, counterman goes and gets another, pulls it out of the bag and guess what, same thing, even had wires hanging off it. That box had the same build date of 9/8/06 on it. Should have seen his face, priceless, he for sure thought I was "One of those customers at first". Found a 8/16/06 dated one that was good, no deffects at all. Sent that info to K&N, waiting for response.....holding my breath and turning blue...

Seems like everyone's finding metal and shavings in just about every intake, carb and air cleaner these days. Kinda makes you wonder if these guys are in kahoots with the engine manufacturors to get us to keep buying engines!

Agree,..the aftermarket has turned on us lately,..even our old trusted brands are trading in quality for the bottom line.

I'm doing my best to stick with GM and A/C Delco.

I wouldn't waste my time trying to tell K&N they have a problem,
I would just return the filter to where I bought it and get a refund.
They probably really don't care.

They probably really don't care.
I'm not ready to believe big business does not care anymore. For the most part American workers still have some pride and want to kick butt on foreign imports. It's all about my approach of the problem, trying to help them with an issue, rather than being pissed and wanting something for free. Their choice to use the information is only as good as the person in charge,his/her attitude for the day, that's what makes me madd about some employees. It's monday or it's friday wa wa, you get paid to work, the company does not owe me anything. Put in your best and sleep well, that makes me a rich man...

Sorry for your problem. I suspect you unfortunately got an odd ball defective filter. I don't think we can blame this one on foreign manufacturing, since I believe all K&N air filters are made in the USA- San Bernardino or Riverside county area. just east of LA. I would give them another try too- I've used K&N's in all my cars for years without problems-but I'll perform a closer inspection of all vette pats in the future before installation. Jim

Big business does NOT care anymore. It's all about getting the stock price up and pocketing big bonuses because of it. I work for a big auto parts supplier and the "Company" could care less about its employees or the quality of the parts. Just MAKE IT CHEAP. Sorry, just had to rant.
