Default Intake Manifold Info

I need help! I just installed a rebuilt 350 425hp motor (non original) into my '71 and when I tried to install the hood....it wouldn't shut! I was told just get a big block hood but I really want to keep it looking (on the outside) stock. So I ask you this...who makes the best high performance stock fitting aluminum intake manifold that will allow me shut my original small block hood? I have a 750 Speed Demon carb that will be sitting on top of it. Any recommendations for air filter covers would help too. I appreciate help that anyone can give me!

About the only intakes that will fit are the Edelbrock Performer and the Weiand Action Plus. You can also use the Professional Products version (I think it is cyclone). It is a knock-off of the Edelbrock.

However, if the engine is set to run at higher RPM's, I would not put one of these manifolds on. Instead, you can get a drop-base air cleaner that will lower the air cleaner about 1 - 1 1/2 inches. They are available from Summit Racing.

If you have an original aluminum stock intake and want to sell it I am interested. Please email me. As for an easy fix I would try the drop base air cleaner.

On my 71, I have a weiand 8120 and a holley 750 with a factory style big block open element air cleaner with a 3 inch filter. I have almost 1 inch of clearance under the small block hood.

The low stock standard 68-72 SB hood will not have adaquate clearance w/ a high rise even w/ a drop base filter.
There needs to be at least about 3/4" clearance over the Holley vent tubes.

Dual plane
2nd 2101 Performer similar to Chevy's bow tie intake which Chevy said was as good as the high rise.
This shows the 2nd 2101 Performer (Chevy's bow tie intake is similar w/ Chevy logo in same place as Edelbrock logo) compared to the Victor Jr.

Divider can be cut down.
Weiand Action+ 8120 looks good also.

Single plane
Weiand 7525 Street Ram "2000-6500 RPM power band."
Height - front 3.50" rear 4.50"
