Default headers, air intake, and pollution controls?

hello everyone well i got my headman headers installed in my 80 vette. when the mechanic put them in he had to disconnect some of the pollution controls because the headers were not equiped with the a.i.r holes, no big deal cause i didnt care much for it and also it wasnt working properly anyway to begin with so he took out the original manifold which had the a.i.r pipes and took out a couple other things, but i had him keep the pully and another component in the front of the engine that works the pollution controls just having him take off the belt that i assume runs most of the system to make the engine look as original as possible. (he says if i dont take the pully completly off i will loose torque, is that true?) now i also got an edelbrock performer air intake at home that i bought a while ago but it is the one with the egr and pollution controls holes. now my question is can i still put that intake on the car regardless if the intake is egr equiped and the cars pollution system is barley even there? will i loose power with it now that most of the pollution controls are gone and the air intake with polution controls and if i can still use that intake do i need to plug those holes? i wish i can explain it to you guys in person it would be easier because i was never good at explaining technical things in writing, sorry... but all i can do is try and i hope you guys can help me.

thank you
phil

You can buy a EGR block off plate.

You might as well take everything off since it's not working anyway. Take the Cat off as well . Those first gen converters were very restrictive.

Go ahead and lose the air pump and pully and belt, kind of a weird idea to try and keep the motor "Original Looking" but your changing the intake and exhaust. That intake will work fine, you can put the EGR n there and its associated vac line, its a good thing to have, green friendly device and doesn't cost much in the way of performance.
I agree with Duke, might as well lose the cat since the air pump is gone it will not be working correctly anyway.

Default thanks!

thanks for the advice guys it really helped a lot it has given me a little more direction. Also i never mentioned it before but the cat was already taken off a long time ago and i put a set of straight dual 2.5 inch pipes from mid america and a set of dynomax super turbo mufflers, i figure is should free up some power especially now with the intake and headers. I wonder how muck power it will free up?
if anyone has anything else they would like to input then please feel free to write it im interested what other ideas are out there.

thank you again
