Why would you want a point dist when you can get an HEI that will out preform a point one and you will have NO maintance? Put in a MSD dist and you will like it much better!!
That's what I mean, I run Accel dual point tach drive dist. with a Crane HI-6 box. You only need one set of points, and since they don't carry the coil voltage, they don't burn. This setup works great in my blown smallblock

I have thought about a capacitive discharge setup, but I dont want the box.
I want my engine to look 1973ish, and while capacative discharge did exist, as I have been reading about it in an ignition tuning book dated 1969 from hot rod magazine, I dont see it in the average 1973 hot rod.

You can buy electronic assemblies that will replace the points in your stock distributor. Summit and other vendors carry them. You don't need to alter anything else in the ignition system but you will eliminate the timing variations that you get as the points wear.
I run a set of HD points on mine with a Crane HI6 box. I have it inside the car and you would never know I have a CD box on the car. It is the stock dist. with the HD points. I turn mine to 7000 rpm without a miss. Been this way for 5 years now. This system works great.

The Crane box is not much larger than a paper back novel. I think with a point triggered ignition a CD type control is essential. Plus the added benefit of a rev limiter
