Default TKO Pre-Install Questions

Have my new transmission in the garage and prepping for the install after t-day. Just barely un packed it and I already have a few questions:
1. I am trying to perform the tranny pre-install test where you shift the transmission through the gears while rotating the input shaft. The shifting appears to work but I can not turn the input shaft. How much effort should I have to put into it. It moves slightly but the test instructions make it sound like it should move pretty easily.
2. Mech Speedo - Where is this locatedo n the transmission?
3. Is the square head bolt on the passenger side the filling point for the synchmesh?
Thanks
Shane

I'm doing the same as you and mine is exactly the same as question #1. Keisler says to put the clutch disk on the spline and rock it back and forth and it'll free up. My disk is still in the car so I can't test the answer. Can't help with other questions.

Look for the rubber plug on about the same spot on a Muncie. It is on the tailshaft pointing about 45 degrees down. Pull the rubber plug out and you will see the gear inside. There should be a small, I think 10mm bolt next to it that holds the cable to the tranny.

Yes the fill plug is on the side. You can actually fill it from anywhere but that is where the level should be. I think it is 3 quarts that it takes.

Try it from the other end by putting the yoke on the tail shaft and the trans in 4th, input should move this way and free it.

The cable is just above the rear mount on the left side. There is a rubber "dick bill" looking plug in the hole. See picture below. Note that the cable they sent was WAY to long so I coiled it up. They have since sent me the correct length. Fill plug is on the other side of the main case about half way up. Takes a shade under 3 quarts. I filled mine after install to keep it as light as possible since I was working alone and it is HEAVY.
Also, I agree with shafrs3, turn the tail shaft with the drive shaft yoke as you can't get a good grip on the input shaft.

Did you remove the shipping plug from the output shaft? Look carefully and you will see a splined rubber sleeve between the rear seal and the shaft. If it's still in there it will be very difficult to turn the input shaft while in gear. Use a pair of needle nose pliers and tug it gently around in a circle until it comes out. Be careful not to tear the dust boot.

Shane:
1. The clutch disc "trick" will work.
2. Duke94 answered and showed a picture of it.
3. On the passenger side of the main case is 2 "square head" bolts. The upper one is the fill hole and the lower one is the drain. If you decide to fill it thru one of the top access covers(prior to install), be sure to remove the top "fill" plug bolt and let it trickle out when it is full. It should hold about 2 3/4 quarts.
