The metal on mine is still in good shape, just a rusty finish now that the chrome has pitted. I want to strip them myself, and look into having them re-plated using that new non-chrome process. Does anyone know what it would cost to have a set of side-mount headers and piped re-plated?

Do you have a number too, or just the address?

Do they do a chrome-like shiny finish? Sounds like a better deal than paying $2000 for new headers and pipes.

Thanks...I'll call and get an estimate. Do you still have the boxes you used to ship the headers? I'd like to get a good idea on how to box them up if that time ever comes.

Cool. That was my next question. That's really cool of them to send the boxes.

I seem to remember from my conversation with the sales rep that it would be roughly half the price of buying new ones. So roughly $700.00. I could be off a little, though...

Btw, someone sent me a PM asking which mufflers I got. Here's the link - http://www.holley.com/21046HKR.asp

Man those look great!
How bad were they before you had them coated? Got any pics? Mine are rusting at the collectors.

Hmm, i really don't remember it's been so long. this is the 2nd time i had them jet coated, i ran smack dab over a plastic grocery bag & it melted all over one of my headers & tried everything to remove it & couldn't so i just sent em in to jethot to strip & recoat again. when they were chrome i started seeing rust after 4yrs & so i woudn't have to pay another $1200 for another set i just sent em jethot & that was 8yrs ago.

I just called Jet Hot and got a quote. I mentioned the forum and he gave me a discount. $428 to strip and coat the headers and side tubes. Very resaonable! He also said they were opening a new plant around Philly in January. I will get it done when the new plant opens.

Did they say there would be any problem with slightly rusted piped and headers? I have a set of chrome Hooker pipes and headers and was thinking of having them Jet Hot coated.

No problem. That is what I have. The only issue will be the consistancy of the finish. It will not fill a rough surface. When the rust is removed, whatever surface finish you have that is what you will end up with except coated. That is my understanding. Give them a call. (800) 432-3379

Yeah, I was gonna...but I hate calling unless I have the money handy. Seems like a wasted call. I will hopefully be able to afford it later like maybe after New Years.

Default looks like that's the way to do it...

I think rather than trying to deal with Hooker and getting a new set from them, I'll just send them to have them coated too. That way I can weld bungs in for wide band AFR sensors to help with tuning. Thanks for the help.....

Oh, I thought you were thinking about building a BB.? I didn't know anything about BB's until I built one and I'm still learning.

BB exhaust manifolds & headers had the exhaust ports/pipes evenly spaced apart. SB's have one on each end and two close together in the middle. Some modern SB's excepted.
