Could a 72 with the rare A/C be bought with either an automatic or manual trans ?
My brother in law had a 72 with AC and auto and is now claiming it was an LT-1.
Is it possible with an auto to have the Lt-1 ?
Dave
The fifth digit in the VIN would be L if the car is a LT-1. According to Corvette Black Book, the 1972 is the only year that the LT-1 could be factory ordered with a/c, and this was only for four months of production. Hope this helps.

CRAZY - You could get an automatic tranny in an early 70's LT-1 powered Camaro but not in a LT-1 powered Vette. Not sure why but it is true. They never even offered the L-46 350/350 (Vette exclusive) with an automatic.

Hello Dave,
Your brother in law HAD a 1972 Corvette. How long ago did he own the car? Where did the car go? What paint and trim color? What body style?
He now thinks it is an LT-1 With A/C. The only transmisson offered with LT-1 was a M-20 wide ratio and a 3.55 rear axle combo for A/C.

Not an LT-1 expert, but in '69 small numbers of L71/L89 (255), L88 and even ZL-1 (I think the yellow Roger's Corvette one is auto) were equipped with automatic. No AC on any of these, though.

Thanks for reply everyone. The car was definitely an automatic as my future wife, when just 16, took it to the DMV to use it to take her driving test. Lets just say the tester who was built like a pro football player was not amused and did not pass her. She then borrowed my
Monte Carlo and had no problems.
I will break the news to him in Wisconsin next time I see him. This guy needs to come back to earth !
