Default BSeery's 1980 ZZ4 project -- post 2.

For those following my ZZ4 project, here is a little update.

Sorry -- no progress on getting the motor in yet, that starts on 9/29/01.

But, I did have a chance to run the car at the local dragstrip tonight, to give baseline numbers before this project.
I met up with the local Corvette clubs and had a lot of fun. I was the only C3 there and was racing against a few C4's and C5's and a Z06.

Now remember, this is a STOCK 1980 L-48 with TH350 tranny and 3.08 gears. And I have not drag raced in over 10 years.

Here are the numbers for the stock motor.
-------------------Run 1:---------Run 2:----------Run 3:---------Run 4:
60 foot--------- 2.208----------2.218-----------2.193----------2.206
330 foot--------6.455----------6.548-----------6.451----------6.469
1/8th mile------9.959----------9.933-----------9.908----------9.930
1/4 mile--------15.611---------15.618---------15.625---------15.533
mph-------------84.79----------83.44-----------82.90-----------85.37

Side notes:
Run 1 -- against a Z06.
His 60 foot time was 2.351, 330 foot was 5.938, 1/8 mile 8.757 (first time I saw him was at the 1/8 mile, until then he only saw my rear end ahead of him !! My reaction time was 6.876 better than his and he had MASSIVE tire spin until the 1/8th mile. I can say that in the 1/8th mile I out ran a Z06 !!) 1/4 was 13.131 @112.96 MPH.

Second run was a by.

3rd was against a C4 or C5, don't remember.
His numbers were a dial in of 13.75 versus my 15.61 dial in.
His 60 foot was 2.524 (remember to look at my numbers as well :D:D), 1/8th mile 9.630, 1/4 mile at 14.445 @103.83 -- I won that round. He ran a 14.445 when he said he would run a 13.75, and I said I would run a 15.61 and ran a 15.625 only 15 thousandths off.

4th and final run against a C5
His dial in was 13.8 / mine a 15.61 again.
His 60 foot 2.149, 1/8th mile 8.965, 1/4 mile 13.744 @102.17 -- he broke out by .056. I broke out by .077 :(:( . My car ran 15.61 - 15.62 all night, and now it has to run a 15.533 ???

So, my goal is by the time the motor swap is complete, and the engine is broken in and tuned, to be running the same 13.8 - 13.7's as the C5's are :D:D:D.
If that does not do it, I have some 3.73 rear gears that might help !!.

More updates starting on 9/29/01 !!
I swap in the ZZ4 starting on 9/30/01

Aw Man! I though I was gonna see more ZZ4 pics.  I think those numbers are about right for that year stock L-48.

BTW---did you buy a hoist or are you renting one? I'm not sure I want to spend $300 for a hoist I'll use only a few times. To rent it's $35/day.

Brian, that sounds like a healthy L-48.:D I ran 15.6-15.7 all day stock - then poured lots of money on for 1.5 seconds off.:D:D

You will be thrilled with the difference more power makes to the overall experience.
