With all the talk about starters...
Lately there has been alot of discussion about the different type of starters. I just destroyed a hitachi high tq. mini starter and I need to replace it. I am not happy with the hitachi unit. I have read about the advantages of the mini's with heat soak, but also read that a good G.M. starter with a heat wrap is a better way to go. Then there is the question of a remote solenoid. I also have 5 wires that go to my starter, 3 small, 2 big, which ones are needed? So, my question is, what are you using on your Vette?
Thanks, Dave

I don't know what you mean by destroyed the starter. I have a cheap Ebay mini-starter on a 11.3 compression ratio 383 and I was surprised how easily it fired up the engine during the summer.
I don't know why you have 2 big wires going to the starter, unless one is the 12v and the other a ground.

Get the GM mini starter that they have used for years now. It is a gear reduction starter that is about 1/2 the weight and size. It is used on many applications from trucks to 502s from GM. I have one on mine and for 5 years so far has been trouble free and starts on the hottest days after soaking for 1/2 hour.
