Is there anyway to put a Holley avenger on my stock intake manifold? I'm going to go to a new aluminum intake this winter but my Q-jet seems to be getting worse and it seems a shame that I have a new carb wasting away till winter. Just thought I'd ask.
A bunch of people sell adapters to bolt square bore to spreadbore manifolds. The problem is that many of the old manifolds have a heat crossover and you have to figure out a way of plugging the holes before you bolt on the adapter.
The adapters are also sort of tall and can keep you from closing your hood unless you use a shorter air cleaner.
The adapters are also sort of expensive, some of them cost nearly as much as a new manifold. Mr. Gasket does make a fairly cheap one (under $20.00) but I have know idea if it would work in your car.
Unless you can add a tall adapter the quad. to Holley adapter will be a performance killer. A carb rebuild kit costs about what an adapter does. Why not rebuild your Quadrajet and use it until you're ready to change manifolds?
I just rebuilt my Q-jet less then a year ago and its leaking fuel and has a hesitation problem on takeoff. I don't won't to pay to rebuild it again. I'd rather go with a new one since I'm planning to swap the intake soon anyway.
