Default Replace Engine 69 350

I have a TH350 tranny. If I replace my engine with a 350/ 430hp/425lbs of torque from the engine factory will the tranny and rearend take it. Also is this a straight forward bolt up without a great deal of modification during installation?

I want some power but not a monster!

I wouldn't worry about it. A TH350 can take some serious abuse, granted a TH400 is better but there are literally thousands of TH350 behind some powerful motors. I ran a 150 shot NOS 383 with a TH350 for years without any trouble. There are some good upgrades for a TH350 as well, new material seals and hardened sprags etc. It is a straightforward install. You may want to upgrade converters to something like a 2,500 stall while you are at it.

As far as the rear end goes, it can be built bullet proof as well.

As long as you are not running slicks it will hold up no problem. It is not the HP that breaks the rear it is traction! You can bust up the rear with 300 HP if you are hooking real hard. You can also run 700 HP on street tires.

Will this combo be quick or average compared to the 350 base engine.

Also in 1969 the hp was rated at the flywheel (300) how do you make sure you are comparing apples to apples.

I wouldn't worry much about the TH350. I built one 10 years ago that's behind a 455 Pontiac with 4:11 gears and gets raced EVERY weekend during the summer. All he's done has been keep the fluid changed and it still barks the tires into 2nd..
