Default Windage tray installation ?

Are these just supposed to slide on the studs, or do they need some persuasion?
Mine looks like it was not appreciated and will need a little tweaking to
fit on the studs.

BTW, what should clearances be for the windage tray? I can adjust it up and down a bit
but I don't know how close to things it should get.

This is a milodon diamond windage tray (the screen one.)

Thanks.

I used 7/16 poly locks on the studs. then put the tray on and used 7/16 bolts to secure the tray. Plenty of clearence.

The tray should be as close to the rotating assembly as possible without it hitting. Remember to allow for some movement of the parts so give it about .045" clearance. It's supposed to slide on the studs but they always need "help". Opening up the holes slightly will make things better.

With .045 clearance, what are you measuring from? Seems both the horizontal attaching bars and the round screen both need clearance.
I'll check once I open up the holes a big.

What torque did you use to fasten it? I didn't get the serrated shoulder
nuts and instead got regular nuts (M10-1.0 grade 5) I got some
split washers in case I need them, but I'm told enough torque makes
them unnecessary.

Thoughts ?

Clearance from rotating assembly ... rod bolts, rod caps, crank throws ... anything that moves that's near the screen. Rotate it through and closely check.

M10 coarse nuts should probably only be torqued to about 30ft/lbs for grade 5. However, there is no gr 5 for metric. Is it 8.8? Use a little medium strength thread locker.

There's no grade 5 in metric ?! Okay, I wonder what they are. I will
check. They are a fine thread nut - 1.0 vs. 1.5 (coarse.)

I'll look at the threadlocker.

Thanks.

Ok, you are correct that 1.0 is fine thread. 8.8 is an approx. equivalent to grade 5 and 10.9 is approx. grade 8.

What is the application that you are using metric?

The studs that came with the windage tray are from Milodon. They have
a smaller shank and a fine pitch thread on the top of the stud. The smaller
shank is a 10 - 1.0 metric thread. I'll check it again against my die set...

The windage tray is tightened against a top and bottom nut on this smaller shank.

Built my whole motor myself, only thing I had problems with was the stupid windage tray, it is sitting on a shelf now, I don't need the aggravation for 2 HP

My experience with Milodon studs just like those had the threads at something like a 3/8-24. I'm pretty sure they don't mix english/metric threads on their studs.
