Default brake system

How the heck do you get the brake booster off the pedal asembly? I got the MC off and took off the 4 bolts under the dash but there looks like a pin that connects to the brake pedal asembly. Do you just pound it out? There looks like a clip on one side of it that I removed. I was thinking it was maybe just stuck in there but I didnt want to go pounding and break something. I figure someone out there as done this before.

Thanks

yep, you are correct, pound it out. it wont take much pounding tho. just very cramped as you already know. i did mine last year and a royal pain but i DID do it without removing seat or steering column.

I just replaced my booster last weekend. Patience is a virtue on this one. I only threw a wrench at the wall a couple of times (I did curse a lot though - mostly at whoever was responsible for the design on this - it must have made for a pretty picture on the drafting table. The reality is something else. I did remove my seat. It made it a little easier. I did not drop the steering column since I had replaced the rag joint a couple of months ago and had everything lined up so well I didn't want to disturb it. I worked around it. The pin you asked about should come out without a lot of difficulty. See if you can get a flat bladed screwdriver up there and push on the pin on the side the clip was on. with any luck it will pop right out or you can just reach up and pull it out the rest of the way. Your fun isn't over though. It is at least as hard, if not harder, to reinstall everything. Not a fun job.
Best of luck

no no no,don't pound the pin out.
There is a clip on the end, it is captured on the pin. Is is basically a C clip. You need to lift the top of it and slide it off the pin.

then the pin will come out easily

No hammer required. There is a clip that holds one end of the pin. See below. Also, in one of my restorations I think I remember that there was a speed nut pushed on two of the studs where they came through the firewall. They get covered up by the pedal assembly. I think they were an assembly aid but they don't show up in the AIM. Anyone else run into those?
