Anywhere else besides Madvet have these rear strut mount removal tolls? Looks like I'll have to try one now that everything else has failed! Gonna try "bobs" idea of cutting into the rod though, just as soon as my back comes around!!!! :cry :cry :cry
Ideas are cheap. I've got plenty. Raise the trailing arm to the position that it normaly rides in to take side pressure off of the strut. Before we had people making fancy tools for us I used to use 2 nuts threaded to the end of the shaft to beat on rather than hit the threads. Remember, Liquid Wrench is cheaper than new parts.
Hope some of this helps.
Most of the vendors sell that tool--I know for sure that Eckler's, Vette Brakes, and Corvette Central have'em. However, they are basically used to protect the threads, and I don't think they'd really help removing the stuck mount.
Buy the tool... you will be glad you did! This tool not only protects the threads but it also "bottoms out" on the shaft, therefor you have a solid hit on the strong part of the shaft not just the threads! Just an FYI... when I removed mine, I had to disconnect the strut from the rear end and remove the trailing arm from the car. The removal works best if you have something solid to place the assembly against so you will not be losing the impact by an arm that is "giving" as you knock it out. You will also need a BIG hammer! It was not an easy job as they were very stubborn!! I also tried many things with no luck until I bought the removal tool... it worked... still it was stubborn.. but then again.. so was I(I didn't give up)!! :D :smash:
you could read my tech tip in the "tech tips" section. no great revelation, but it's cheap and readily available and it works, still need good penetrating oil & a good size hammer. good luck!
Gary-------thanks for the input, an entire can of "PB Blaster" over a period of three days, a 5lb, and 20lb sledge, and blown out back, add up to not even a budge. As I've indicated in my other posts, I've hit one so hard, (with two nuts on the thread),I bent the stud! I am trying to get to tech tips, but for some reason I keep getting "(that page not available")?
