Default question for a 69 frame off

I am currently invovled in a 69 frame with my dad and I have a few questions, so far we have removed the body, motor and tranny. The frame is sent off for blasting and powder coating. So here is my first questiuon. I need to know how to get upper and lower control arms off of the ball joints, so they can be blasted and coated. We are also going to have the rear end case treated the same way and need to get the diff out to be rebuilt neither of us have any experience in rear end work so I need to know how to get the diff out so I can send it off to be rebuilt.

Which is better poly or rubber bushings?
I need to find someone to rework the trailing arms

thanks for your help this forum has helped alot in the process

Original ball joints are rivoted to the control arms. Replacements are normally bolted on. To remove ball joints with rivots, use a sharp chiesel and hammer or drill bit. A die grinder or related tool can also be used or anything else to free up the rivots. Good luck!

You'll find as many people for poly as there are for rubber. Depends on what you plan on doing with your car and how much "stiffness" you want to put up with. Poly will last forever, but rubber has lasted 38 years on my '68. I'll go with rubber.

Most here will agree that vansteel would be the people you want to rebuild the trailing arms. They are CF sponsors and you can fin their ad or link on the left side of the forum pages. I've had multiple people tell me they do a great job

Upper ball joints often haven't been changed, you'll have to grind the rivet heads off to get them free. The lowers are more likely to be bolted in, but they may still be riveted.

I like poly bushings, rubber wears out in my area very fast. My '00 Cherokee's suspension bushings are already starting to look rough. Poly gives you a "tighter" road feel, but some people think it's harsh...but it can't be any worse than the '68-'72 aluminum body mounts...

If you go with poly, make sure you use the supplied grease everywhere that poly touches metal. Don't buy Prothane bushings. Get Energy Suspension or the poly bushings sold by Van Steel or VB&P.
