Default Help me!

Ok my interior light dimmer is broke. Is there anything i can do that will fix it or will i need to replace it? Also what is the easiest way to get back to it. Should i take off the speedo/tach gauge out? If anyone has any pictures of behind there speedo/tach that would be a great help. Thanks.

The dimmer is on the light switch. Its rather easy to get to that. Push the little button to release the **** shaft and then remove the nut on the front of the switch. Unplug the wires. Normally you will have to replace the whole switch.

I think when I replaced my light switch, I had to take the pillar post moldings off so that I could lift up the dash pad for access to the switch. And even then it was quite tight on my '72. Like Wombvette said, there is a small metal button on the back workings of the switch that when depressed, allows you to pull out the **** and rod (be aware that when you do this, your lights are now on). Then after removing the ****, remove the bezel that says 'Lights' on it, unhook the switch attachments in the back and put the new in.

You don't need to remove the top pad. I have had that think out so many times I have it down to an art. I can do it with out removing anything. Try this first. Lie on your back on the floor. Look up so you can see the switch...find the button that releases the shaft...has a spring on it...get a screwdriver....reach up...push the button....pull the shaft out at the same time. Remove the the vac lines...remember the order...remove the wire plug...remove the bezel on the front...switch will drop down.

If you get stuck. Loosen off the speedo/tach...tilt it forward...gives you enough room to get a small hand in there. Other option is to loosen off the dash pad on the door pillar....gehtle pry it back...once again gives you enough room to get a small hand in there.

If its the dimmer you will see a break in the coil.
