Default Wheel Question....

What advantages/disadvantages do you get in having a smaller (width and/or height) front wheel than the rear?

What would be the difference in 17x11's all around or 17x8 front, and 17x11 rear, or 16x8 front, 17x11 rear?

On a drag strip? on the street? appearance/driving it?

Is there any reason to go bigger than 17 if your going to drag race?

Because the front wheels turn you are limited to size. Large tires hit fenders and/or can not turn in as sharp of circle, because of rubbing.

Most people have larger tires on the rear for traction.

Hope it helps.

hmm... so whats the difference between 17x8, 16x8, and 17(or 16)x6 on the front? do you gain/lose anything in any of these setups with the same size rear wheels on all of them?

I think theres someone on the forum with 17x9.5 front, and 17x11 rear TT2's... Thats what i'm thinking of doing. Would I gain/lose anything with different front setups? (maybe weight distribution or something?)

Also, can you go any bigger than 11" wide on a c3?

Missing your question?

I think 17x9.5's will fit all the way around.

15 inch tires, their are no performance tires to buy.

If you are looking for performance, you need tires that will grip both front and rear. 6" front and 11" rear will not give you the handling you want.

Narrow fronts are used for drag racing to reduce friction on accelleratin.

Again just my opinion.

Ahhh, I was wondering why they have bicycle wheels on the front (exaduration).

But if I plan on both street cruising & drag racing, I should get some nice size front and rear.

Ok, so my last question would be, what do you gain/lose between a smaller height in the front? (ie. 16's in the front, 17's in the rear, instead of 17's all around)

I'm planning on an overall height difference of the front tire wheel combination vs the rear combo in the neighborhood of 1/2". I want a slightly shorter setup up front soley for looks. If you look at the specs on the C5's with 18's in the rear an 17's up front, the overall height difference is 3/4" - 7/8" shorter up front. I'm not sure why they did that, but I'm sure they have a good reason.
