Default Hood application question

Hi everyone, I'm new to this forum as well as re-newed to the vette owners club (or should I say caregiver). I just purchased a 68 ragtop that has the bigblock hood. I can't say I really care for the looks especially being that It has the small block. If I was to swap it out to the original style, what years would fit and allow the wiper door to function?
Thanks. Dan

Oh where were you two weeks ago. I just bought a new big block style hood for my car. Will soon be swapping and won't need the old one...Would you be interested in a swap for yours?

68-72 should work fine for your car.

What did you do with your old hood? Would it work with my wiper door?

Hi and welcome. You will need a '68-'72 stock low rise hood to swap. '68 hood supports are one-year-only and you may have to go the hood support for the year of the hood you locate in order to have a functional hood support.

Cruise and enjoy. Remember, Shark drivers wave!! :seeya :seeya

I've heard that sometime in 68/69 they had a problem with the tooling for the regular hood and put BB hoods on many SB cars. I ran into one of these when I was hunting for my 69 BB car and the owner swore it was original due to this problem. If you are not sure, I would post to the factory correct forum to verify this and see if they can give you the timeframe and match it to your VIN to see if it was indeed original to the car. Just my .02!

Currently, the old hood is still on the car, while the new one sits in the corner of the garage awaiting paint. It seems from above posts that there may be an issue with the supports between 68 and 72 that I was not aware of, but mine will work with your wiper door...Where exactly is Grand Ledge? Maybe we can get together and compare.

68ragtop,
Welcome to the forum- you'll like it alot here. Just a word of caution on your hood swap- have you checked to see what intake manifold is on your car? Some guys have swapped to the big block hood to gain clearance for a taller aftermarket intake and, if that's the case for you, the small block hood may not work. Hopefully all is good & you can make the swap. :chevy

Another word of caution. The 68-69 hood is different than the 70-72. The rear hood catches are a different arrangement. If you get a 70-72 hood that has all the hardware it will work.

sounds like we're about 1.5 hrs. apart. I don't know if my hood will work for your car or not after looking at the other posts, but it couldn't hurt to get together and look. Maybe some time next week? I'm out of town this weekend.

Marks69BB -- Some '67 small blocks got big block hoods for about a three day period during the '67 production run, but I have not heard of 68/69 cars getting big block hoods. What's your source for the info?

I'm almost sure I saw it here in May/June of this year but I didn't save it. I remember seeing it mentioned here  after I ran into the vette owner I thought was full of :bs . Not sure though, that's why I told 68ragtop to post in Factory Correct Forum. :(

Thanks, 69BB. I love little bits of Corvette trivia like this and am always chasing down sources.
