I noticed something on the threads when I disassembled my front spindles. That large bolt that holds the dust shield - should it be installed with loc-tite - or was that anti-seize... I assume it was loc-tite as there are 'tabs' on the dust shield to help lock the bolt down. Guessing that was done to deter any annoying dust shield rattling... should loc-tite be used on the other bolts?
I also need the torque specs on:
3 Spindle bolts
2 small bolts that hold the upper ball joints onto the A-Arm.
2 small bolts that hold the upper ball joints onto the A-Arm.
I checked the AIM and there is no page on the front spindle - I even searched in the 1969 Corvette Access Database I got from another member. Page 174 is best as I could get.
Ball Joint bolts take 25 ft/lbs. I could never find the torque specs for the spindle bolts when I redid mine. I think I torqued that big one at the top to 75 ft/lbs or so.
I had found the ball joints themselves in AIM:
Lower Bolt for Upper Ball Joint @ Spindle = 40 - 60 (Max 90 when slot is in correct position for pin)
Top Bolt for Lower Ball Joint @ A-Arm = 40 - 60
Lower Bolt for Lower Ball Joint @ Spindle = 70 - 95 (Max 125 when slot is in correct position for pin)

I was referring to the ball joint securing bolts. If you look at the vansteel catalogue they call them "replacement bolts." It shows 25ft/lbs on their sheet, but yours may be different or I'm thinking of other bolts. 50 sounds like alot and I don't remember those bolts being that big.
blc - I agree - the 50 does sound too much. Will go with the 25 - as I checked at the auto parts. Anyone have the torque values for the 3 bolts in the knuckle? Really need input to overview all bolt torques for teh entire front spindle assembly. Thanks.
Thanks Chris - that is alot of work in that chart - will print out tomorrow.
BTW - I talked with a buddy tonight - he suggested checking out teh size of the bolt and looking for a chart that had correlating typical torque values. I did not venture there yet - but your chart is great And since its 1980 - I would assume most of the values are pretty darn close if not the same.
