Default Performance fuel pumps?

I may need to upgrade my stock fuel pump for something a little better, but I have a few questions and concerns.

What is the difference between the factory fuel pumps used on LT-1's and those used on L-48's? Is there a difference in flow and pressure?

Who makes good mechanical pumps that are available with a return line?

What would you recommend as far as pressure and flow for 400HP/6000rpm?

I currently have a Holley fuel pump---I can't remember which model number, but its the chrome one that doesn't require a regulator. It cranks about 8PSI. Last summer I installed an inexpensive($19.00) AC Delco LT-1 fuel pump and it was pumping out about 9 PSI. I think anything over 6 is good and over 9.5 too much. I don't know what a stock L-48 would pump. Bubba removed the return line to the tank before I got my '70(that's the reason I initially got the LT-1 pump) I eventually want to add a fuel pressure regulator though.

If you have no return line get the LT-1....If you want to get fancy get the Holley...IMHO :D:D

I'm running a 6 psi Carter (no return line, 1/4 NPT outlet) on my ~450 388 stroker, with no problems. Nice pump, it's rated at 120 gph I think, which is more than the comparable Holley/Edelbrock units. I think it was $50-60. If I did it again I might have gone with the 8 psi for a little more security. Keep in mind when changing fuel pressue, you may need to adjust your floats.
