I was out cruising the 75 when out of nowhere the speedometer started clicking and jumping up 10mph when it clicks. I am looking for information on what can be done to fix this. Can the cable just be replaced? Does the cable link into the Transmission? Or can you "re-grease" the old cable?
I have swapped rearends and from what I hear, the speedometer will not read accurate if the ratio has been changed. Which it has. Went from 3.08 to 3.70's. So I think I could benefit from changing the cable anyway. But I don't know how hard it is to change.
Re: 75 speedometer ticking and changing reading (flood)
Ok, one of the members had emailed the fix to me. It doesn't seem too difficult to get to and change. The next question is which speedo cable to order? The 24in, 72, or 61in? Im at work and want to order it online and I can't measure the one that is already in the car. Does anybody know which length for a 75 manual tranny?
Re: 75 speedometer ticking and changing reading (flood)
cruise control or not? if so, the 24" goes from the speedo to the cruise control regulator thingy under the hood(excuse my technical terms)...then the 61" goes from that to the tranny. If its non cruise, the cable runs from the speedo to the tranny, probably the 72"(75", something like that). Anyway, worse case sanario is the cable is longer then the one you replaced, it won't hurt anything I don't think..
