You want to loosen the nut. Determine how much you want to lower the car. If there is adequate threads left on the spring bolt, then loosen it. If there is not sufficient threads, then a longer bolt is needed. Measure the length of the existing bolt and purchase one 2" longer. It's somewhat tough to get these bolts at a hardware store. I recommend using one of our fine forum vendors for the purchase.

On my 70 the original spring bolt was 1/2" x 6-1/2". I bought a Grade 8 1/2 x 8 from a local fastener shop which lowered the rear 2". Make sure to get a Grade 8.

I recently purchased some longer bolts from a large US vender (I won't name them) and they had made in china stickers on them!!! So be carefull about where they come from, obviously I wont be using the ones I have! Who knows what grade they really are? I doubt there true grade eight.

The spring bolts on my 69 were 9/16. I bought some 9/16x8in long from the local catapillar dealer for 3.33 each. These are grade 8 bolts and no problems.

Default rear end height

Loosening bolt lowers height. Or get longer bolt.

I got my bolts at the local CAT dealer too. The price was right and it settled the rear down to where it belonged.

I got some advise from Fast Corvette about seting the hight. First look from the back at the half shafts ,set the hight so the outer ends are about .375 in. lower then the inside so that when you punch it the h shafts will be stright (not puting stress on the u v joints) then adjust the front hight if necessary.
