Can You tell me who quoted you 300 dollars for ceramic headers and what brand where they, and how to get a hold of them.
I have not found any good paint, they tend to flake and damage after a small period exposed to heat.
I haven't tried it personally, but most Eastwood products I've used are very good. I know Eastwood offers a high temp bright silver for headers. If you applied it with a spray gun as opposed to a cheap spray bomb, you'd probably get better results.
There are alot of Cerma Coated headers for under $3OO. Jeggs and Summit offer several. The dynomax are popular here. I got a set of hedman side exhuast coted headers for under $300 from Summit.
I have been using a ceramic based header paint made by Dupli-Coat. I touch it up once a year, and that is only because it fades after a year. I hasn't flaked at all. I bought it at Pep Boys. It is in a gold and silver can with a set of black headers on the front.
Thanks Eric, I'll look for the ceramic based stuff, too bad there's not a pep boys up here :(
And Yes I have custom headers. The $300 is for coating only! The headers are worth more than you guys can afford ( me too for that matter! ) As I Made them myself, parts alone came to $400, but now I have true equal length (+- 1" ) 1 3/4" dia 34" long side exhaust headers :D:D
Assembly time was ( ok is I'm not quite done with the passenger side ) about 100-150 hours :U
I just got the ceramic coated Dynomax headers from Jeggs for $200.00. I bought the same ones a few years ago for another car and they are still in great shape.

Keih, here is the website for the paint....don't know if you can order it online, but I am sure you can find the nearest dealer. http://www.duplicolor.com/engine.htm
That 300 dollars is about right. I had mine Jet Hot coated 3 years ago for that price. I know your looking for something less expensive but My headers look the same as when they were done. No touch up or anything. My problem now is I want to put in O2 sensors and don't want to mess up the coating. Oh well I'll figure out something.
I have used a Bill Hirsch product "black high gloss manifold finish" paint with very good success. Comes in 1qt can and use a spray gun to apply. This paint must be baked on slowly to cure properly. If you don't have an oven large enough, you can do it on the car. Make sure paint is dry to the touch, install, and let engine warm up a little, then shut off, cool down, little warmer, cool down, etc.
I have also used Eastwood's product. I think all paint applications will require touch-up as they age. One thing for certain, you cannot touch-up over any "starting rust or peel areas" as it will never stick. Best thing to do with a set of headers that are a couple of years old and needing touch-up is to have them bead-blasted and reapply paint.
Eric, I could do that I just have heard that the closer you keep it to the heads the better the reading will be. I have read the best place is about 10 inches from the head but I'm not going there. I don't know if the extra couple of inches past the collector would make a difference.
I read somewhere that the heated sensor works better anyway. I did a thread on this a while ago and got some good responses. I know drives61 uses O2 sensors to tune his cars. Maybe I'll give him an email for some info.
